Dongargarh: Are you fond of smoking bidis, that too of branded companies like Gola Chap, Meghna and Bhola Chap? Then be cautious. Chattisgarh police exposed a racket of selling fake bidis wherein fake bidis of the before mentioned companies among money others were recovered. Sources reveal that the brother of a local BJP leader has been arrested in the case.
The making and selling of fake bidis was exposed when Jatin Mirani, owner of Dhamtari’s Gola Bidi Works, complained to Rajnandgaon SP that fake bidis were being sold in the market in the name of his company. Acting on the complaint, the police raided two locations of Ravindra Sakhare, brother of local BJP leader Devendra Sakhare, in Dongargarh’s Danteswari Para area.
During this period, the police recovered hundreds of packets of fake Gola bidis, bidis without labels, thousands of wrappers, holograms and fake labels of almost all the major brands. During interrogation, the accused admitted that he used to buy cheap bidis and pack them as branded bidis and sell them, which gave him good profits.
At present, the police have taken action against the accused Ravindra Sakhare under the Copyright Act and other legal sections, but the bidi manufacturing company has also demanded action against BJP leader Devendra Sakhare, on which the police has issued notice to Devendra Sakhare and other members of his family and started investigation.
