Cyclone Dana Update: With cyclone ‘Dana’ likely to make a landfall between Bhitarkanika and Dhamra tonight, around 10,60,336 people were evacuated to cyclone shelters. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has asked district administrations to complete the evacuation process by 11 am.
“The state government is fully prepared to tackle whatever situation arises. I urge people not to panic. You are in safe hands. We have been closely monitoring the situation with the help of multiple systems,” Majhi told media persons after reviewing the situation.
“I reviewed the preparedness in the office of the Special Relief Commissioner to deal with possible cyclone ‘Dana’. The government is fully prepared to deal with the storm. All the departments are working in good coordination to ensure ‘Zero Casualty’ in safeguarding the lives, providing relief, giving priority to rescue operations. Do not panic and follow the information provided by the government. Together we must weather this storm successfully”, wrote CM Majhi on X.

Cyclonic storm Dana is currently barreling towards coastal Odisha, set to make landfall on early Friday morning and bring heavy rains and thunderstorms to the state. Cyclone Dana will bring heavy rains to the southern part of West Bengal and coastal Odisha, threatening to impact nearly half of the latter’s population after it makes landfall.

In a more recent cyclone Dana update, India Meteorological Department informed on X, The severe cyclonic storm “DANA” (pronounced as Dana) over central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during past 6 hours, and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST of today, the 24th October, over northwest & adjoining central Bay of Bengal, near latitude 18.5° N and longitude 88.2°E, about 260 km southeast of Paradip (Odisha), 290 km south-southeast of Dhamara (Odisha) and 350 km south of Sagar Island (West Bengal).
