India’s javelin sensation Sumit Antil made it back-to-back gold medals at the Paralympics with a stunning performance on Monday, September 2 in Paris. Sumit, who came into the contest as a hot favorite, delivered on his promise and clinched the gold with a record-breaking performance. The Indian went on to break his own Paralympic record twice during the course of his 6 throws and looked to be in perfect form from the get-go.

“Exceptional performance by Sumit! Congratulations to him for winning the Gold in the Men’s Javelin F64 event! He has shown outstanding consistency and excellence. Best wishes for his upcoming endeavors”, wrote PM Modi on X.

Sumit Antil on Monday became the first Indian man and second from the country to defend the title as he won the F64 category gold with Paralympics record of 70.59m at the Paris Games. The 26-year-old world record holder from Sonipat in Haryana bettered his own earlier Paralympic record of 68.55m set in Tokyo while winning the gold three years ago.

That would be shattered by Sumit with his very first attempt as he was ecstatic after nailing 69.11 m and take the lead in the contest on Monday. But the joy was set to be doubled as the javelin sensation hit 70.59 m to break his own record once again and extend the lead from the rest of the pack. The third throw from Antil was 66.66 m and the fourth one wasn’t counted as it was a false throw. Sumit would produce another stunning throw in the 5th one as he hit 69.04 m to more or less ensure that he was going to be the one walking home with the gold.
