During the conference of governors recently held by PM Narendra Modi at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, he noted the governors as the key “linking pin” between the central authority and states’ administrations. It was presided over by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and focuses on topics of concern involving the central and state governments. In addition, it seeks to productize various schemes for the benefit of the common man.

Speaking at the event, Modi stressed that governors should get involved in the given societies and nongovernmental organizations to improve the identification and access to various marginalized groups. He, therefore, expounded the place of the governor as an important institution in the context of the constitution, especially in the tribal regions, and at the same time, was quick to point out that the governors could go a long way in auguring the welfare of their region.

The conference is being presided over by President Murmu and will comprise many parallel sessions in which the governors will deliberate on various business items. Such topics are as follows: the execution of three new criminal laws, progress in higher education, and the evolution of the tribal areas. The items of information were presented by Murmu, who underlined that the agenda was ‘thoughtfully designed’ to focus on the challenges that are important for the nation’s goals achievement; the meeting stressed that such discussions could enhance the understanding and functioning of the participants.

President Murmu, during her inaugural speech, stated that the formulation of the three new criminal laws was a new beginning and the development of a new chapter in the justice delivery system that had left behind colonial laws. She said that the functioning of democracy requires better coordination at the level of central agencies or among different states.
