A fast-running train from Jammu to Jodhpur in Rajasthan was brought to a standstill at Kasu Beghu station in Firozpur town in Punjab following a bomb scare to the railway officials. This was the Jammu Tawi-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express with train number 19926, rail police lost communication with the train after an emergency phone call from the police was made to be cautious of an explosive device on board.
This threat was given through the Rail Madad app, an application used to report incidences and access details on the status of complaints lodged. This call was made by a mob which was connected through a West Bengal number and raised questions on trust and the source of the threatening call. In response, the train was stopped at Kasu Beghu station, which is 10 Km away from Ferozepur, to plan either delay or cancellation of the services for the day.
Once the alert had been received, local police teams, RPF persons, and the bomb squad were quickly rushed to the scene. People were disembarked from the train as a precautionary measure, which indeed helped with safe evacuation. Rescue squads, together with the fire brigade and medical personnel in attendance, extend their services to the lasting search and rescue mission and guarantee the safety of all the people.
Even the Senior Police officers such as Randhir Kumar, the Superintendant of Police (Investigation) Ferozepur, have clarified the situation and ensured that everything is being exercised with due sensitivity and adequate security measures are put in place. The teams are working intensively to understand the authenticity of the threat and gather evidence through careful examination of the train and its vicinity.
This event once again underlines the security issues in the area, especially with all the recent attempts in increasing terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir. These groups are considered a menace by the authorities and a lot of efforts are being made to try and minimize any possible danger. Information on the progress of the incident will be reported as the investigation continues and new details are disclosed.
