The counseling session for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) has been postponed until further notice. The Supreme Court was previously informed by the National Testing Agency (NTA) that the counseling procedure will begin on July 6, 2024. The timetable and comprehensive announcement for NEET-UG Counseling 2024, however, were not shared by MCC.

Regarding alleged widespread irregularities, ranging from question paper leaks to impersonation during the test on May 5, the Union Education Ministry and the NTA, which administers the test for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses, have been at the center of media discussions and demonstrations by students and political parties.

Six students from a Faridabad, Haryana, center reached the list of students who received a perfect score of 720, which is exceptional in the NTA’s history and sparked concerns about anomalies. A retest was required for at least 1,563 applicants who received grace marks on the NEET-UG. But 750 of them skipped it.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was given charge of the investigation into the purported paper leak, and they have detained six people thus far, including Aman Singh, a major conspirator.

The Union government opposed the NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam being administered again in an affidavit it filed with the Supreme Court on Friday. It claimed that because there isn’t much evidence of malpractice, taking such action would be needless and disrupt the academic period.

In support of this position, the NTA also submitted a separate affidavit to the top court that same day, arguing that postponing the exam would be “counterproductive” and harm the chances for eligible students to pursue their careers, even though the instances of malpractice were “minuscule,” “sporadic,” and “scattered,” committed by a specific group of people at a specific location where the strict measures are being implemented.
