In dramatic action, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) and Mangalagiri Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC) demolished a Yuvajana Shramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) under-construction office building in the wee hours of Saturday. This has created a political fire which YSRCP has firmly termed as setting a stage for ‘vendetta politics’.
The demolished building was located on what was claimed to be an unlawfully occupied piece of land of 870. 40 sq mtrs in shop and office building of R. S No. 202-A-1 situated within the boat yard compound of Seethanagaram, Tadepalli Mandal of Guntur District. This has been an issue that has stirred the Canadians and this was evident by the action of the authorities that had to take such a step.
YSRCP reacted immediately to the demolition and slammed the mass as political vengeance initiated by the TDP government. The party expounded more by pointing out they had gone to the Andhra Pradesh High Court the day before to oppose preliminary activities of the APCRDA. As per the YSRCP records, the court has passed the directions to stop all kinds of demolition prior to the alleged incident that the authorities did not bother to follow.
On Friday, YSRCP Guntur district president M. Seshagiri Rao obtained a civil chamber warrant petition claiming a temporary order restraining any decision by the State government, CRDA and MTMC regarding the building until the hearing was concluded. Apparently, the demolition went on, so YSRCP labelled the act as contempt of court.
The demolition, described as unprecedented and the first instance of a party office being razed in the state’s history, began around 5:30 AM using excavators and bulldozers. YSRCP complained that the structure was built after envisaging a slab over it and then removed and objected that despite the High Court’s directions, the CRDA continued the unlawful act which would only invite further legal battle.
YSRCP said in a statement claiming that, “This demolition is unlawful as it not only defies the High Court stay order but is also a blatant disregard to the constitutional authority.
