Kolkata: Kharge has brought balance to the Congress after several years of internal differences and the emergence of the G23 faction. He also played a major part in setting up the 25-member Opposition Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA). However, Kharge is now battling for supreme power with the rebellion in West Bengal. His posters and hoardings were garlanded, and slogans against him came to the fore in Kolkata. This is the unrest that follows the action of Kharge to defy the Bengal unit chief Adhir Chowdhury in matters of his solidarity with TMC Chief Mamata Banerjee.

On Monday, the Congress demanded that an inquiry be made in its’ Bengal unit regarding the defacement. The party is taking these anti-party activities very seriously, said KC Venugopal, Congress general secretary organization.

The incident took place near the office of Congress in Kolkata on Sunday only the previous day where former Congress interim-president Mallikarjun Kharge made the controversial statement negating the claim of Congress MP Sougata Roy that the people of Bengal cannot trust Banerjee. His posters and marks were tagged as “Kharge is the Agent of Congress” or “Agent of TMC”.

Though the TMC is in India block the Congress doesnot have formal tie-up in WB as an indication after this very same Parl Parl Surjyo was projected as the candidate of Congress against Mamata Banerjee in the South Kolkata parliamentary seat that saw Congress fielding Surjyo former WB Minister responsible for the burning of buses by Communist MLA Surjyo that triggered the violence against the BJP workers outside the Parliament in New Delhi. Banerjee continued to fire at the BJP-led government under Modi on Monday.

The clash occurred due to Banerjee’s comments regarding the Ramakrishna Mission and the Bharat Sevashram Sangha. Modi blamed Banerjee for intimidating these institutions to serve her selfish interests and vote bank. Senior monks have since responded that she opposes no institution but those who politicize their position as monks. She alleged that some monks stood in the queue with posters encouraging voters to support the BJP.
