Ramapur: The Chhattisgarh election continues now, where seat candidates from all the 7 Lok Sabha constituencies are assessing voters. But in this series, a small village announced its support by boycotting election days. The stream was because there were lots of roads in the area, and mostly, about a hundred residents took to the streets to protest against the construction.
Casting voting is completely banned in the Ramapur village as the villagers refuse to let anyone from the rural area come to their village and cast their votes. All of it has been followed by the district administration team, who has come to the spot in an attempt to convince the villagers.
Evidently, in every successive conversation with forestry authorities, the residents assert that years have already gone by since the initial complaint was raised, and all they have been promised is reassurance each time. The section of the 6-kilometer road which is yet to be constructed, remains dear even after all this time.
The nine-month period of school closure is dragging on for villagers, especially the ones who are overlooked in society. The monsoon season, on top of that, compounds the situation, and school attendance is affected as students fall sick more frequently. While the area boasts a leadership that is often good, the construction of roads remains a huge problem that ties down, it is development.
The villagers, by the same token, are showing their opposition to the elections, which they reject. This challenge is not a surprise, and the setup of the new leadership showed a good quality in achieving success in all their endeavors. The intervention of the administration is the key to bridging the grievances of the villagers and finding a solution to this problem that has been a drag on community development.
