New Delhi: India celebrated its 75th Republic Day on 26th January 2024. This year French President Emmanuel Macron was the chief guest. President Droupadi Murmu hoisted the national flag at 8 am at Kartavya Path. This year’s Republic Day theme was ‘Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Loktatantra ki Matruka’.

The Republic Day 2024 parade commenced at 10:30 am (IST) from New Delhi’s Vijay Chowk, following the route from Vijay Chowk to Kartavya Path. It started at Rashtrapati Bhawan and proceeded to the Rajpath.

The venue accommodated approximately 77,000 people, with 42,000 reserved for the general public.

Numerous tableaus will showcase India’s rich cultural history, culture, and tradition. The cultural pageantry of the R-Day includes vibrant fold dance performances and patriotic songs.

This year’s top attractions include a women’s tri-service group parade, a French contingent to join the R-Day parade, six Indians to join the French military team in the Republic Day parade, AI to take space in the parade, ISRO’s Chandrayaan-3 to be highlighted, and so on.

This year’s Republic Day theme, “Viksit Bharat” and “Bharat: Loktantra ki Matruka,” signifies the nation’s aspirations and its role as a guardian of democracy.

Earlier, Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane said women marching contingents will form the major chunk of the parade, with most of the tableaux of States/Union Territories (UTs) and Central Ministries/Organisations showcasing the country’s rich cultural diversity, unity and progress.

Amidst the tableaux of various states and ministries that would participate in the Republic Day parade this year will be an exhibition of sarees, textiles and embroideries from around India. Titled ‘Anant Sutra – The Endless Thread’, the exhibition along the Kartavya Path on Friday will feature nearly 1,900 drapes mounted on wooden frames.

Costume designer and exhibition curator Sandhya Raman says, “This exhibition is about the thread that binds us, bridges us across distances, and that women carry on from generation to generation. The saree has two borders, representing you and me, and a pallu, which represents how we come together to become one. That is the beauty of this garment and country. It is timeless.”

Bollywood actor and youth icon Ayushmann Khuurrana was present to witness India’s 75th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path (formerly called Rajpath) in New Delhi. The actor shared several pictures and video of himself in which he is seen enjoying the parade.

In the caption of his Instagram post, Ayushmann also said he is feeling ‘nostalgic’ as he used to watch the Republic Day Parade on Doordarshan as a child.
