New Delhi: The Winter Session of the Parliament for 2023 started today i.e. 4 December and will run until 22 December. Earlier on Saturday, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said that the government is fully ready for structured debate and they have requested the opposition to let the House function smoothly.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressed the media ahead of the beginning of the winter session of the Parliament, tweeted Prahlad Joshi.
The Winter session of Parliament in India commenced on December 4th, 2023, with a packed agenda of 21 bills, including two financial ones. This 19-day session, spread across 15 sittings, is expected to witness heated debates on various crucial issues.
Key Bills on the Table:
- Three contentious bills seeking to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the Evidence Act. These bills have drawn criticism from opposition parties and legal experts who raise concerns about potential erosion of civil liberties and due process.
- A bill proposing to amend the appointment process of the Chief Election Commissioner and Election Commissioners. This bill aims to bring more transparency and objectivity to the selection process.
- The long-awaited legislation on cryptocurrency regulation is also on the agenda. The government is yet to reveal its stance, but the bill is likely to generate significant interest from investors and industry stakeholders.
Encouraged by its triumph in the assembly elections, the BJP is gearing up to confront the Congress-led opposition in the Winter session of Parliament. Leaders of the Opposition INDIA bloc will also be meeting ostensibly to redraw their strategies to take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP both inside the Parliament and in the electoral arena.
