Salman Khan had high hopes for capturing the South Indian market with “Tiger 3,” but despite falling short in the south, the action-thriller has emerged as a box office powerhouse, particularly in the north. However, the film is displaying signs of front-loading, akin to many major Tamil hits, and its momentum is waning in less than two weeks of its theatrical run. On its 10th day in theaters, “Tiger 3” contributed Rs 6.3 crore to its domestic total, reaching Rs 243 crore in India, with expectations to cross the Rs 250 crore mark imminently.
While the film’s success is noteworthy, considering Salman’s recent track record, having not delivered a substantial hit since 2017’s “Tiger Zinda Hai,” its extravagant budget demands scrutiny. Reportedly costing Rs 300 crore to produce, “Tiger 3” may struggle to surpass the Rs 500 crore global mark by the end of its theatrical run, even though it recently crossed Rs 400 crore globally, as noted by analysts.
Although surpassing the lifetime gross of the first Tiger film, “Tiger 3” still lags behind “Tiger Zinda Hai,” “War,” and “Pathaan” in YRF’s Spy Universe. The film faced questions about its release timing during the Men’s Cricket World Cup’s final stages, with Team India in contention. Despite a strong opening of Rs 44 crore on an unconventional Sunday Diwali, the film experienced a rapid decline within two days. Daily collections plummeted below Rs 20 crore by day five and further dipped below Rs 10 crore by day nine. The Hindi-language release’s occupancy is now below 15%, with the dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions nearly disappearing.
Looking ahead, the YRF Spy Universe will continue with “War 2,” currently in production with Ayan Mukerji directing, followed by the speculated “Tiger vs Pathaan” crossover film, keeping fans intrigued about the future of this cinematic universe.
