Raipur: In the first phase of the Chhattisgarh Vidhan Sabha elections, held on November 7, voting took place for 20 seats. Despite the looming threat of Naxal violence, voters displayed resilience in exercising their democratic rights. The Election Commission has released fresh data on the voter turnout for these 20 constituencies, revealing an overall participation of 78.07%. Notably, the highest voter turnout was recorded in Bastar at 84.67%, while the lowest was in Bijapur at 48.37%.
Comparing these figures to the 2018 elections, Panderia constituency had a voter turnout of 77.84% previously, and this time it witnessed a slight decrease to 75.27%, reflecting a nearly 2% decline. In Kanker, there was a minimal drop from 82.50% in 2018 to 81.24% in the current elections, indicating a marginal 1% reduction. Similarly, Khairagarh recorded a decrease from 84.51% to 82.67%, approximately 1% less than the previous election. Dongargarh also experienced a dip from 82.70% to 81.93%, marking a decrease of 0.77%.
However, Rajnandgaon witnessed an increase in voter turnout from 78.87% in 2018 to 80.00% in the current elections, indicating a rise of 1.13%. In Dongargaon, the voter turnout decreased from 85.43% to 84.10%, reflecting a decline of 1.33%. Khujji constituency also experienced a reduction from 84.76% to 82.81%, showcasing a 1.95% decrease. Lastly, Mohla-Manpur recorded a minimal decrease from 80.28% to 79.38%, signaling a 0.9% dip.
Anticipating the final phases of the Chhattisgarh elections, these turnout figures provide insights into the dynamic voting patterns across various constituencies, highlighting the electorate’s engagement amidst challenging circumstances and emphasizing the significance of democratic participation.
