Raipur: During the election campaign, in Chhattisgarh, the Congress party made an announcement that if they came to power again, they would reduce the price of a gas cylinder to below 500 rupees. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel tweeted about this development, stating that Chhattisgarh would have the most affordable gas cylinder in the country. Currently, a cylinder costs 974 rupees, and if the Congress government manages to provide it for 500 rupees, people would only need to pay 474 rupees, CM Baghel said.

According to media reports on November 1st, during the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Mizoram and Telangana states, there will be updates regarding LPG cylinder prices. Two months before these elections, on August 30th, the Modi government reduced LPG cylinder prices by 200 rupees as a significant relief measure. In Delhi, a 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder can now be purchased for 903 rupees.

This decision was praised by analysts who viewed it as a strategic move by the Modi government ahead of the elections. On October 1st commercial cylinder prices were increased by 209 rupees. In Delhi, a commercial cylinder weighing 19 kg became more expensive by an amount of 209 rupees. Kolkata experienced an increase of 203.50 rupees per cylinder while consumers, in Mumbai, had to deal with a hike of 202 rupees per cylinder.

Chennai also saw an increase, in the prices of cylinders, with rates reaching up to 203 rupees per cylinder.

The decrease, in cylinder prices, has become a topic of discussion in the arena as the state prepares for the assembly elections. The Congress is attempting to capitalize on the issue by promising even lower cylinder prices if elected. However, such promises can sometimes be seen as election strategies to gain public support and may face scrutiny based on their economic feasibility. Voters will likely assess these promises along with various other factors when casting their votes in the upcoming elections.
