Vijay’s film, “Leo,” had a tumultuous release, marred by controversies, and is now striving to maintain its presence at the box office. However, lukewarm audience reception indicates that surpassing the lifetime collection record of Rs 604 crore held by “Jailer” may prove challenging. On its eighth day in theaters, “Leo” collected Rs 10.25 crore, bringing its net domestic earnings to Rs 265.6 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.

During its eighth day, “Leo” reported a 25.92% Tamil occupancy rate, with evening shows drawing the most viewers. Director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s film boasted nearly 900 showings in Chennai, where the occupancy rate reached approximately 33%. “Leo’s” worldwide gross collection currently stands at Rs 464.3 crore. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala reported that the film grossed Rs 461 crore in its first week worldwide.

The film enjoyed a thunderous start, raking in Rs 140 crore globally on its opening day. In the domestic market, it earned Rs 64.8 crore on the first day but saw a significant drop of around 44% on the second day. The seventh day witnessed another sharp decline, with earnings plummeting from Rs 30.7 crore on Tuesday to Rs 13.4 crore on Wednesday. Whether “Leo” can experience an upswing in collections during the second weekend remains to be seen.

“Leo” is part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s LCU (Lokesh Cinematic Universe) and continues the storyline after the events of Karthi’s “Kaithi” and Kamal Haasan’s “Vikram.” Lokesh is gearing up for his next project with Rajinikanth, although it’s unclear whether it will also be part of the LCU. The film features Sanjay Dutt and Trisha Krishnan in prominent roles.

The journey of “Leo” at the box office, beset by ups and downs, keeps viewers and industry experts closely watching its performance in the coming days as it vies to break records and make its mark in the world of cinema.
