Raipur: This year, the political scenario in Chhattisgarh is witnessing a clash of narratives against the backdrop of Diwali and Dussehra festivities. The dispute ignited when Home Minister Amit Shah speaking at a rally in Jagdalpur claimed that Chhattisgarh would celebrate Diwali three times this year to commemorate the BJP’s expected comeback in the state.

In response to Shah’s statement, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, addressing a gathering in Dantewada, dismissed the idea and stated that Shah’s hopes would never materialize. He emphasized that while Diwali is a celebration, Dussehra precedes it in Bastar.

Dussehra holds significance in Bastar with its chariot procession from Dantewada temple to Jagdalpur. People from communities across the region actively participate with enthusiasm.

Baghel tapped into these sentiments by engaging with devotees after offering his prayers and expressing his thoughts before the elections. The BJP has accused Baghel of corruption, while Amit Shah questioned the utilization of funds allocated by the Centre for state development during a rally in Kondagaon.

Shah pointed out that during Congress’s year of rule, at the Centre, Rs 29,000 crore was allocated for welfare nationwide. In contrast under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership Rs 1,32,000 crore has been spent on welfare.

However, Shah made a claim that the money was redirected to the leadership of the Congress party.

Baghel, visibly disturbed by these accusations, stressed that when the central government allocates funds to Chhattisgarh, it is not an act of kindness.

Privatization has been a central theme in Baghel’s election campaigns, with the Chief Minister contending that the BJP’s privatization policies primarily serve the private sector’s interests at the expense of the state’s citizens. He cited the example of the land in Nagarnar, stating that it wasn’t entrusted to private hands by the people of Bastar, and questioned why neither the Prime Minister nor Amit Shah had addressed the issue.
