Raipur: On August 5, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel’s administration executed a digital transfer of over Rs 15 crore to various beneficiaries, including cattle rearers, women self-help groups (SHGs), and ‘gauthan’ committees, as part of the Godhan Nyay Yojna (GNY) initiative.

Launched in July 2020, the GNY scheme revolves around the purchase of cow dung at a rate of Rs 2 per kilogram in gauthans, which is then transformed into vermicompost, promoting sustainable agricultural practices. During a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s official residence, Baghel underscored the nationwide recognition received by the GNY scheme. He emphasized how the initiative has empowered women in SHGs and kindled the interest of farmers in cattle rearing.

Of the total disbursement amounting to Rs 15.29 crore, Rs 5.60 crore was credited to the accounts of cattle rearers in exchange for the cow dung they supplied to gauthans. An additional sum of Rs 9.69 crore was allocated to gauthan committees and women SHGs collaborating with the program.

This latest digital transfer augments the cumulative disbursement under the GNY scheme to an impressive Rs 541.66 crore, a testament to the government’s unwavering commitment to supporting local communities and fostering environmentally sustainable practices.

The Godhan Nyay Yojna continues to make significant strides in empowering rural populations, promoting eco-friendly agriculture, and boosting the economic well-being of cattle rearers, women self-help groups, and gauthan committees across Chhattisgarh.
