Raipur: The government of Chhattisgarh, led by Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has introduced the “Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas NYAY Yojana.” This initiative aims to provide cemented houses to 47,000 individuals living in rural areas of the state who are facing financial hardships. Although the program was initially launched in 2021, its execution was delayed due, to the impact of COVID-19.

This state-level scheme takes inspiration from the “Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana” implemented by the government in 2016. However, in November 2021 the Chhattisgarh government decided not to participate in this national-level program and did not contribute their share towards it. The objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana was to offer housing to 18,75,580 families with funding shared between the central and state governments at a ratio of 60;40.

This year Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced that a socio-economic survey would be conducted by the state government to determine the number of eligible beneficiaries. Since there hasn’t been a census since 2011, Chhattisgarh conducted its survey in April. The survey results revealed that around 11 lakh families were currently living in houses ( permanent structures).

In July CM Baghel unveiled the “Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas NYAY Yojana,” which promises support for housing construction for eligible beneficiaries across the state. It covers all required funds, for implementation.

Moreover, this state initiative will also provide benefits, to the families that are still on the waiting list of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin.
