Raipur- The tragic murder case of Malkit Singh, a young member of the Sikh community, has become a focal point of contention in the Khursipar police station area of Bhilai, Chhattisgarh. This incident has garnered significant attention, with the BJP seizing the opportunity to criticize the state government’s handling of the situation. In response to the murder, the Sikh community organized a Durg-Bhilai bandh (shutdown) as a form of protest, creating a mixed impact. Notably, the protest led to a temporary blockage of the national highway for approximately half an hour.

Amid these developments, Chhattisgarh’s Chief Minister, Bhupesh Baghel, issued a statement that accused the BJP of manipulating the incident for political gain by giving it a religious connotation. Baghel expressed his deep sorrow over the tragic murder of the young man, emphasizing that all the accused individuals had been apprehended by law enforcement. Despite this, Baghel lamented the BJP’s exploitation of the incident for political purposes, accusing them of attempting to inject communal tensions into the situation.

Addressing the presence of BJP veterans at the three booths, Baghel suggested that these gatherings were motivated by personal interests rather than genuine camaraderie among party members. Furthermore, he downplayed the significance of the visit by Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to Surguja division, indicating that it would have a limited impact given the modest attendance at meetings involving his leader, Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
