Corona Update: Nation Registers its Second Biggest Surge of 1.15 lacs Owing Second Wave; Maharashtra Out of Oxygen Cylinders

New Delhi: India records the second big rise after Monday. Nearly 1.15 lakh new COVID cases were observed by the Union Health Ministry in the past 24 hours. The country’s grim depth deepens even more as the mortality count continues to rise subsequently. 630 deaths took the toll to 1,66,208. Only 59,714 recuperations were observed by MoHFW.

India ranks third for its COVID registrations while, globally 31,487,572 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 2,857,702 deaths are reported. The government says, “the next four weeks are very very critical.”

Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh are the five states with the highest rise in daily infections. Maharashtra, the worst-hit state, reported over 55,469 cases in the last 24 hours. The persistent rise has bought the government into a grim phase. State health minister Rajesh Tope spoke to Dr Harsh Vardhan requesting the neighbouring grant for the neighbouring states to send oxygen cylinders to Maharashtra as the state’s hospital has reported a shortage

The southern coastline observed a spike in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Kerala.

Chhattisgarh, among the states that saw the highest daily rise in the number of cases, logged in 9,921 new cases. Six per cent of India’s Covid cases and 3 percent of Covid deaths in the country are from Chhattisgarh, whose population is lesser than that of the bigger states, Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said on Tuesday. The centre said the number of RT-PCR tests needs to be increased in the state. 

While, the national capital recorded 5,100 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, which is its biggest single-day Covid figure this year. The government imposed a night curfew from 6 April to 30 April to deter the spread.
