A mini-auction was held ahead of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, after the franchise was asked to get the process done by Wednesday. The auction will be telecasted today in the evening. At a media address during the auction, former batsman of team India Aakash Chopra said that he feels the Rajasthan Royals should go for a new captain before the tournament begins.

The performance of the once-champion team turned upside-down during last year’s IPL tournament. The men in pink played the matches under the leadership of Australian batsman Steve Smith during the 13th edition of IPL. Despite doing better after the return of English all-rounder Ben Stokes, the Royals were unable to keep the performance up-to-the-mark till the end of the league.

Chopra, on that note, shared some of his opinions during a media address, stating – “On paper, Rajasthan Royals feels like one of the most complete teams in the IPL, but on the field, the team has failed to impress even its staunch supporters”. The former team India batsman further added – “Though RR had something to cheer about in Rahul Tewatia and Riyan Parag last season, they still finished at the bottom of the table. I feel the team needs a new leader and that has to be at the top of the priority list next season”.

Chopra, while sharing his opinions at the media address, also named some of the strong players that the team already owns, stating – “I think the team should not release their current young talents such as Akash Singh, Mahipal Lomror, Mayank Markande, Anuj Rawat, and Kartik Tyagi”.
