The makers of the upcoming Rom-Com ‘Coolie No. 1’ have announced today that the movie is neither going to have a single screen release nor in theatres of India or overseas. The romantic-drama, starred by Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, is all set for a Christmas release on the OTT platform Amazon Prime.
Taran Adarsh, the film critic, and movie trade analyst shared an update announcing the news on his Twitter handle. He tweeted, “XCLUSIV… While #CoolieNo1 premiers on #Amazon this #Christmas, an update on its *theatrical* release…” Adarsh also noted that Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Laxmii’ enjoyed both an OTT release and a theatrical release back in November, as in India, it was directly released on Disney+ Hotstar, but the film had a theatrical release in few other countries. “#India: Won’t release at single screens, puts all speculations to rest. #Overseas: No theatrical release, unlike #Laxmii [released in select markets simultaneously]”, tweeted the film critic.
This is the second film of Varun Dhawan with his father, director David Dhawan, after the great box-office success of ‘Judwaa 2’. ‘Coolie No. 1’ is a remake of the 1995 movie by the same name, that was starred by Govinda and Karishma Kapoor.
