Sushant Singh death: SC directs CBI to probe the case; orders Maharashtra to assist

New Delhi: On Wednesday, The Supreme Court directed a CBI probe into the mysterious death of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and asked Mumbai police to handover all evidence collected so far to the premier investigating agency.

The apex court also said the FIR registered in Bihar based on the complaint filed by Sushant Singh’s father was correct and added that the Bihar government had the right to refer the Patna FIR lodged by Rajput’s father to the CBI.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai police on Tuesday got the forensic audit report of late Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajputs bank accounts, a top official said. While doing an investigation into Rajput’s bank accounts after his demise in June, the police had chosen to get them forensically audited.

However, The report recommended that there was no money related exchange from Rajputs accounts to those of his girlfriend, actor Rhea Chakraborty, the official said. Rajput (34) was financially wealthy and took great consideration of his staff as well, he said. The police will share essential documents with the Enforcement Directorate (ED), which Is looking into suspected money laundering aspect in the death case, the authority said.

Earlier, Actor Rhea Chakraborty, Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend and the main suspect in the case, had asked the Supreme Court to transfer the FIR or First Information Report registered by his family in Patna to Mumbai.

On July 25, K Singh, the dad of Rajput, had filed an FIR to the Patna police against Rhea Chakraborty, her relatives and a few others, charging them with abetment and theft. 

Based on the complaint, Singh had also claimed that an amount of Rs 15 crore was siphoned off from his son’s bank account. 

Rajput was found dead in his apartment in suburban Bandra on June 14.
