BEIRUT: On Tuesday, A massive explosion shook Lebanon’s capital Beirut, wounding number of people and causing widespread damage to the nearby buildings.
The afternoon blast had shook several parts of the capital and thick smoke billowed from the city center.
Residents reported windows being blown out and a false ceilings dropping.
The explosion took place at the Beirut Port and caused wide scale destruction and shattered miles away.
The source of the explosion was unclear. LBCI Lebanon News claimed that a fire had broken out at the port and then triggered an explosion of a nearby warehouse storing fireworks.
According to the Daily Star, two explosions were reported, one at the port and another near the former home of the late Lebanese president Rafik Hariri, who was killed 15 years ago in a Hezbollah-Iranian attack.
