New Delhi: Ahead of the elections of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) a remarkable display of unity has emerged. Out of the 25 state bodies an impressive 22 have pledged their loyalty, to Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the president. During a meet and greet session representatives from each state unanimously agreed to vote for candidates supported by Singh for crucial positions within the federation such as the new president and secretary general.
Given that each state is represented by two delegates in the electoral college list all 44 representatives have already signed the nomination papers showcasing their support, for the leadership. However it remains to be seen who will succeed Brij Bhushan Singh as the chief.
The official nomination filing is set for Monday. We’ll get a view of the candidates vying for important positions later, in the evening. While Brij Bhushan camp seems to have an advantage there might still be some surprises.
Interestingly Brij Bhushan son in law Vishal Singh won’t be part of the executive. Initially, there were expectations that he might secure a position. He decided not to run after both Brij Bhushan and his son Karan withdrew their names from the list.
Despite support for Brij Bhushan Singh, some members of the state bodies attended the meeting as a way to protest against the ad hoc body. They raised concerns about affiliations given to Himachal Pradesh and Assam. Alleged that it was done without proper authorization. Furthermore, they highlighted cases where certain federations were forced to include individuals who weren’t part of the state executive.
As we approach the WFI elections it’s fascinating to observe how things unfold. Supporters and opponents are closely monitoring these developments. The outcome will undoubtedly shape wrestlings future in India with elected leaders playing a role in guiding the sport, towards achievements.
