New Delhi: A vacation bench of the Supreme Court declined the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking a direction to Lok Sabha Secretariat for the inauguration of new Parliament building by President Droupadi Murmu and not Prime Minister Narendra Modi as scheduled. After a vacation bench comprising Justices JK Maheshwari and PS Narasimha expressed disinclination to entertain the PIL filed by Advocate CR Jaya Sukin, the petitioner withdrew the matter.
The petitioner had cited Article 79 of the Constitution and pointed out that since the President possesses the power to summon and prorogue Parliament of dissolve the Lok Sabha, it must be kept away from the inauguration of the new Parliament building.
“We don’t understand why you come up with such petitions… we’re not interested in entertaining it under Article 32”, said Justice Narasimha.
Earlier on Friday, BJP President JP Nadda took a swipe at opposition parties boycotting the new Parliament building’s inauguration, saying that it connects them through their dynastic leadership whose monarchic methods are at loggerheads.
