INDIA: The novel coronavirus has taken over the world like no other. The horror of pandemic doesn’t seem to halt anytime soon with the numbers rising day by day across all countries. Currently, India is at 4th position in the worst hit country after US, Brazil and Russia.
On Sunday, as many as 14,821 people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours — this is the 3rd straight day India has recorded over 14500 cases, with this, Nationwide count surged to 425,282.
The country has witnessed a surge of 2,19,926 infections from June 1 till 21 with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh among the top five states that have seen a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases.
Of these 14,821 cases, Maharashtra and Delhi reported the maximum number of new cases. Telangana and Assam also witnessed high rise in new cases in the last 24 hours.
India’s death count crossed 13,500, is the 8th highest globally. The death toll in India reached 13,699. The states recorded atleast 445 fatalities in last 24 hours. More than 45% of these new deaths on Sunday were reported from Maharashtra.
Goa on Monday reported its first death due to coronavirus. An 85-year-old woman from Morlem in North Goa, who was diagnosed with covid19 earlier, has succumbed to the infection in the hospital.
On the positive side, over 2.37 lakh people were cured from the disease. Coronavirus recovery rate reached all time high with 55.7%. Meanwhile, there are 1,74,387 covid19 patients who are undergoing treatment across the nation.
On Sunday, Maharashtra recorded over 3,870 new cases, taking the total number of coronavirus patients in Maharashtra to 132,075. Out of this, Mumbai alone reported 58,226 coronavirus cases since the outbreak. With 186 fatalities on Sunday, the death toll in the state increased to 6,170.
Delhi’s coronavirus count nears the bleak milestone of 60,000-mark. The Union territory added 10,000 coronavirus cases in the last 4 days.The national capital reported 3,000 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Currently, Delhi stands at second worst hit countrywide after Maharashtra with 59,746 cases.
Tamil Nadu is not far behind in the race of reaching the grim milestone of 60,000. Tamil Nadu also registered over 2,000 new infections for the fifth straight day. The state has 59,377 cases of coronavirus and has recorded 757 deaths so far.

Meanwhile, More than 8.9 million cases of the novel coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide, including more than 467,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
