Sudan: The Indian Air Force managed to rescue a total of 121 Indians in a night session from a flight that had no landing lights. These passengers included those having medical cases; even a pregnant lady was present on the flight, and the flight took off from Wadi Saddiyana, which is approximately 40 km away from Khartoum towards the North.

The Indian Defense Attache led this convoy, and they were constantly in contact with the Indian Air Force till they reached the Wadi Saddiyana. There were no additional fuel sources or any navigational approach aids on the flight, but it managed to land safely.

When the flight reached the Wadi Saddiyana region, they used Infrared sensors which helped them to detect whether there were any obstacles nearby or not. This allowed the flight to land successfully. The aircrew used Night Vision Glasses, which enabled them to navigate the flight safely.

The engines were constantly running, and it took approximately 2.5 hours to rescue the Indians and their luggage. Operation Kaveri has helped more than 1360 Indians have been rescued from the Sudan situation. The wars in Sudan between the Rapid Support forces and the Sudanese Army have led to massive destruction in the region.
