Raipur: Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singh Deo stated that a novel form of the coronavirus had been discovered in eight individuals in the state. The N440K variation was found in recent reports of Covid-19 patient samples obtained from the Centre. However, Deo reassured the public that the variant was a typical virus mutation and that there was no need to be concerned.

Despite the improved variation, Chhattisgarh still sees an increase in Covid-19 cases. On Friday, 4,174 new cases were reported, bringing the state’s total number of illnesses to 3,57,978. In addition, 43 more deaths were reported during the day, bringing the total to 4,247.

Deo emphasized that the prior strain’s treatment and procedures would be carried over to the new variation. He further claimed that neither the Centre nor scientists had made any warnings about the N440K version being more dangerous.

This new type was discovered as India confronts a deadly second wave of Covid-19 infections, with over 3 lakh cases recorded daily in recent weeks. Several states, including Chhattisgarh, have been dealing with an overburdened healthcare system and a lack of medical oxygen and hospital beds.

To deal with the epidemic, the Indian government has imposed harsh curfews in some states and increased immunization efforts. However, vaccination shortages remain a severe issue in the country’s fight against the pandemic. Currently, just approximately 2% of India’s population is fully vaccinated.
