Indian Star pugilist Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain, Saweety Boora, and Nitu Ghanghas stormed into the finals of the IBA Women’s Boxing World Championships 2023 being held in New Delhi on Thursday.

Lovlina Borgohain (75kg) pulled off a huge win against Li Qian of China, a Tokyo Olympics silver medallist. The Indian won the bout 4-1 eventually after being 1-1 with three judges on a tie after two rounds. Borgohain clinched the high-profile clash against the 2018 World Champion and two-time Olympics medallist in the 75kg semifinal. She has already assured India a silver medal and would be fighting for gold in the final. It will also be the first time that Lovlina fights in the final of the WBC.

Earlier in the day, Nikhat Zareen defeated Ingrit Valencia of Colombia in the semi-final of the 50kg category after a unanimous decision. 22-year-old boxer Nitu Ghanghas also made her way to the final of the tournament in the 48kg category after beating top seed Alua of Kazakhstan.

Apart from Lovlina, Zareen, and Nitu, Saweety Boora also qualified for the final in the 81kg category. She defeated Australia’s Emma Greentree. The 30-year-old from Hisar won the match 4-3 by a split decision. His victory meant that India have assured themselves at least four silvers in the tournament.
