ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad HC on Friday suspended the non- bailable arrest warrant issued against the Former Pak PM and ordered him to appear before the court. Khan, who heads the Pakistan Tahreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, left his residence to seek protective bail from the Lahore High Court in various cases filed against him in the two cities.
A large number of PTI workers and supporters – some armed with batons and iron rods – were seen accompanying the 70-year-old leader to the court building, about 5km (3 miles) from Khan’s Zaman Park residence.
Meanwhile, Pak Army chief Gen Syed Asim Munir has extended solidarity in Imran Khans’ arrest to end his political career, according to local media houses.
It must be noted that Imran Khan directly accused Gen Munir of the ongoing crackdown against him by the police and Pakistan Rangers, a pair of paramilitary federal law enforcement corps.
Earlier today scores of supporters barricaded the Zaman Park- Former PMs home in Lahore as they waited to hear a ruling from the Islamabad court. According to sources even though there was no police present on Friday, the supporters armed with batons and iron rods remained stationed outside his home.
It is learned that PTI party had filed another plea on Friday at the Islamabad High Court to suspend the warrant after a session court Thursday rejected a similar plea.
Khan, the 70-year-old Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, has been resisting arrest in the Toshakhana case and is holed up inside his Zaman Park residence here surrounded by hundreds of his supporters, who have fought pitched battles with the police and Rangers over the past few days.
Khan is accused of selling state gifts given to him when he was the prime minister from 2018 to 2022. He denies the charges.
