NEW DELHI: Proceedings in the Lok Sabha kicked off on a stormy note on the second day of the budget session. Shortly after resuming business, the house was adjourned until 2 pm amidst uproarious scenes that continued with demands on the JPC probe on the Adani issue.
Prior to the commencement of the second day at the Parl’, PM Modi held a meeting with his top ministers including Prahlad Joshi, Goyal Narender Singh Tomar, Kiren Rijiju, and Anurag Thakur amongst others.
Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge convened an urgent meeting of the opposition leaders at 10 am at the Parliament a day after Parliamentary proceedings were adjourned amid the ruckus over Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in the United Kingdom (UK) on Indian democracy and Parliament. The meeting was to follow that of a Congress parliamentary party strategy group that commenced at 9.30 am.
On the agenda in the House, today is a general discussion pertaining to the Jammu and Kashmir budget for 2023-24. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, meanwhile, will lay on the table of the Rajya Sabha a statement showing Supplementary Demands for Grants for the Union Territory. The Upper House is also expected to discuss the working of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and the Ministry of Textiles.
In the first half of the Budget session, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha functioned for just 84% and 56%, according to PRS Legislative Research. The government has about 35 bills pending in Parliament. In the first half, no bills were passed.
