New Delhi: The union government today announced ‘one nation one policy’ for organ donation and shipping throughout the nation. The policy will ease the process of organ donation so that the domicile requirement will no linger be enforced and all states will be informed about the decision by the center.
The government of India has decided to do away with a clause in the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation guidelines as the clause violated the Right to Life. As per the current guidelines, there is a restriction on people above 65 years from receiving organs and registering for organ donation. However, the center has decided to abolish this age limit.
Sources reveal that the new policy will allow any needy person to go to any state or country and register for an organ and get the transplant done. The government of India held a consultative meeting with all the states to implement this policy on January 9. Earlier in September last year, the doctors had advised the government to push for mandatory organ donation.
