NARAYANPUR: Naxals in the Bastar division of Chhattisgarh have revolted against the political leaders once again. Members of the outfit in Chhotedongar, Orccha in Narayanpur have set up banners threatening to kill party leaders in the state. This is the second banner the Naxals have issued in the killings so far. Earlier they had left a handbill near the dead body of Sagar Sahu a former BJP Sarpanch taking responsibility for the murder.
The security in the area has been beefed up. BJP workers are being contacted by security officials to know their whereabouts and provide them with security. Chief minister Bhupesh Baghel has directed the state DGP to instruct the police chief of all Maoist-affected districts to convene an all-party meeting for reviewing the situation and undertake appropriate safeguard measures following the recent killing of four office bearers of the opposition BJP in Bastar.
The state BJP president and MP from Bilaspur Arun Sao on Monday raised the issue in the Lok Sabha claiming that their party cadres are becoming the victim of ‘target killing’ in the Congress-ruled state.
“The Centre should direct the Chhattisgarh government to ensure the security of the people and institute an independent investigation into the incidents,” Sao said.
In the past few days, there has been a spate of murders of political leaders by Naxalites in the state. A former village head in Chhattisgarh’s Dntewada district was killed allegedly by Naxalites who accused him of being a police informer. The ex-sarpanch, Ramdhar Alami, was a resident of village Hitameta.
