NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister’s Office in India will hold a high-level review meeting on Sunday (January 8) to address the ongoing crisis in Joshimath, a town in the Uttarakhand region experiencing sinking land and cracks in houses. As per the statement, district Officials of Joshimath will also remain present through video conference on this issue. According to the release, senior officers of Uttarakhand will also attend the review through video conferencing.

CM Dhami on Saturday visited Joshimath to assess the situation on the ground, a day after he called for the immediate response team to initiate the evacuation of around 600 families that will for the coming few days stay in temporarily built structures the state department. Additionally, the families will also be handed over Rs 4000 every month for their well-being. So far over 44 families have been shifted and 229 rooms have been arranged which can accommodate 1271 people said- Dhami interacting with the timid residents on Saturday.

Joshimath, the gateway to famous pilgrimage sites like Badrinath and Hemkund Sahib and international skiing destination Auli, is facing a major challenge due to land subsidence.

Media reports mentioned that the residents of Joshimath the last three months wrote to CM to alert him about the repercussions of blasts in the tunnel of the NTPC hydel project nearby. Over the past few days, the city residents have been complaining of cracks in the houses as the ground shook. Roads cracked and panicked residents took to the streets staging protests demanding immediate attention.
