Mumbai: The Mumbai Police have given new information regarding the death of Cyrus Mistry who lost his life in a road accident. They claimed that Anahita Pandole was wearing her seat belt wrongly at the time of the accident and that is why she suffered more injuries. Apparently, on September 4, Mistry (54), former chairman of Tata Sons, and his friend Jehangir Pandole died after their Mercedes-Benz car collided with the railing of the Surya river bridge in Maharashtra’s Palghar district. Darius Pandole also suffered serious injuries in the accident. All of them were returning from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.
Dr. Anahita, who was driving the Mercedes-Benz car, was not wearing the seat belt properly, Palghar Superintendent of Police Balasaheb Patil said. Anahita was wearing only the shoulder harness and did not adjust the lap belt. According to the police, an alarm is fitted in a Mercedes-Benz car or any new electronic car. If you don’t wear the belt properly, it will sound an alarm. But Anahita made a mistake here, she used the lap belt to switch off the alarm, that is, she put that belt on the alarm and sat down wearing only a shoulder harness to show it in the traffic. Now the police will also put this negligence in the charge sheet.
A case has been registered against Dr. Anahita under several sections,
police said, adding that Dr. Anahita, who survived the accident, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in South Mumbai and is likely to be discharged in the next few days. The Palghar police had registered a case against her under various sections in November. These include sections 304(A) (causing death by rash and negligent act), 279 (driving at a high speed on a public road), and 337 (causing death by endangering life and personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). She was also given challans previously for rash driving, the police have said.
It is being told that the accident took place at Charoti Naka on the Surya river bridge in the Kasa police station area, about 120 km from Mumbai, at around 3 pm. Mistry was chosen as Ratan Tata’s successor in 2011. Earlier also he was associated with the leading business conglomerate Shapoorji Pallonji Mistry Company. Born on July 4, 1968, in Mumbai, Cyrus’s father Pallonji Mistry was also a big business tycoon.
