Kanker, Chhatisgarh: Four people returning to Odisha and Kondagaon after attending a wedding in the city’s Govindpur on Saturday night suddenly disappeared from National Highway 30. All were traveling in the same car. Everyone’s mobile was also telling off. When no information about them was received till Sunday afternoon, the relatives reached Kanker police station. 

After the shocking incident came to light, the police began their search operation. The car was later found in a well on Monday morning about 15 meters away from the highway on NH-30. When the police took out the car, the bodies of all four were found inside it. The dead include the Naib Tehsildar of Odisha, his wife, and his brother-in-law. On Saturday night, they were returning from Kanker by car after attending a wedding ceremony. 

Naib Tehsildar, Sapan Kumar Sarkar along with his wife Rita Sarkar, her brother Vishwajeet Adhikari and another relative Hazari Lal Dhali had come to Kanker for attending a wedding ceremony. All of them are originally from Odisha. Everyone was returning from the wedding in the car that went missing after crossing Dudhwa Chowk at around 10.40 pm on Saturday night, near Jangalwar College. All their mobiles also said switched off when relatives tried to contact them.

When the police reached the well located near Jangalwar College while checking the CCTV footage, they found it to be doubtful. The well was about 15 meters away from the highway and was not used by locals because it was very old. Many bushes had grown around. When the police removed the bushes and looked inside, they found the car. Police pulled out the car with the help of a JCB and crane. 

According to police, after proceeding from Dudhwa Chowk, they visited a petrol pump to fill the car’s tank. The petrol pump is located at Singarbhat. The last transaction in the police investigation came from this petrol pump only. Police were also examining the CCTV camera of the petrol pump. This was the first such case in the district so far, due to which there is a stir in the police department as well.
