BETUL: In a tragic incident, Tanmay Sahu, the 8year old boy who fell into a borewell in Betul, MP lost the battle and breath his last on the intervening nights of Friday and Saturday despite vigorous efforts by the rescue teams that were engaged for 84 hours.

Tanmay who was found dead after his body was pulled out from the borewell at 5:30 am in the morning on Saturday was immediately rushed to the hospital for postmortem. The passing away of the boy was confirmed by the District Administration who was present at the site of the rescue.

CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan expressed grief over the death of the boy and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the boy. He took to Twitter to extend condolences to the family.

Eight-year-old Tanmay Sahu had fallen into a 55-feet-deep borewell in Mandavi village in the Betul district of Madhya Pradesh on December 6 while playing on a farm. Emergency forces including SDRF, police personnel, home guard, and ambulance services were engaged in the rescue operation that last for more than 80 hours. Earthmoving machines were brought in to dig a parallel tunnel to get the boy out of the borewell.

It was confirmed by his 12-year-old sister that Tanmay had fallen into the borewell, following which his family immediately rushed to the spot and informed the district authorities.
