A big blow to the Rohit Sharma led team ahead of IND vs BAN 1st ODI, as Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been ruled out. Reports state the 33-year-old suffered a hand injury during a training session after which he didn’t leave for Bangladesh on December 1. It is also speculated that he might be ruled out of the two-match Test series against Bangladesh. Meanwhile, BCCI has named Umran Malik as the replacement.

“Mohammed Shami has suffered a hand injury that he sustained after resuming training post T20 World Cup in Australia. He has been asked to report at the NCA and has not travelled with the team on December 1,” a senior BCCI source on condition of anonymity said interacting with the reporters. “Shami’s absence from three ODI games is definitely a factor but bigger worry is his likely absence from Tests where he is supposed to spearhead the attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence,” the source added.

The extent of the injury is yet to be ascertained. According to sources Shami would have been the most experienced pacer on the Bangladesh tour which will also see the likes of Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli return to action. Earlier, Shaami was also rested for the NZ series.

Shami has been priceless for India in the longest format and with no Jasprit Bumrah. In the absence of Shami, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj, and Deepak Chahar are expected to make up the pace attack while debutant Kuldeep Sen could also play an important role.
