RAIPUR: The Bhartiya Janata Party on Tuesday fielded Bramhanand Netam as its candidate for the December 5 by-poll to the Bhanupratappur Assembly seat in Chhattisgarh. The Bhanupratappur Assembly seat fell vacant after the death of sitting Congress MLA and state Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Manoj Singh Mandavi.

Addressing the media, state party chief Arun Sao said- The BJP’s central election committee has approved the candidature of Netam, a former party legislator, for the Bhanupratappur byelection.

Bramhanand Netam, 49 years is presently vice president of the state BJP’s Scheduled Tribe wing. He served as a legislator from 2008 to 2013 in the Kanker district of the Maoist-hit Bastar division.

In the 2018 Assembly elections, BJP’s Devlal Dugga lost the Bhanupratappur seat to Congress’s Mandavi by a margin of 26,693 votes.

The last day for filing the nominations for the by-poll is November 17. The polling will be held on December 5th and the counting would be done three days later.
