GWALIOR: A local court on Friday sent notorious dacoit Gudda Gujjar who carried a reward of Rs 65,000 to prison, an official said. Gujjar was produced before the court on Friday by the Gwalior police. It is speculated that the Morena police will also issue a warrant to take him into remand.

Gujjar was arrested on Wednesday by the Gwalior police after a brief encounter in the Bhanwarpura forest. As per sources, Gujjar the Gwalior police swung into action after receiving a tip on the movement of Gujjar and his gang. During the brief encounter, Gurjar was injured in the leg and arrested, while his gang members managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

Gurjar was the leader of the only big gang of bandits in Chambal. In the last six months, he had unleashed a reign of terror in the border villages of the Sheopar and Morena districts. A few days ago, villagers had also staged a protest against police failure to tackle Gurjar at Morena district headquarters. His house was demolished on orders of CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan on October 29th.
