Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh: Eight retired officers of the Indian Navy are under house arrest in Qatar for 70 days. One of these officers is a resident of Gwalior, MP. His sister has demanded the release of the brother and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to look after the matter. She said that her brother is neither being allowed to meet anyone nor is he being allowed to come back to his family.

Dr. Meetu Bhargava, the sister of retired officer Purnendu Tiwari, a resident of Windsor Hills, Gwalior, has sought help by tweeting. She tagged the PM on her tweet and wrote that her brother Purnendu Tiwari is a retired officer from the Indian Navy. He now works for the Qatar-based company Dahra Global Technology and Consultancy Services along with the 7 other officers who are taken hostage. Purnendu is the MD (Managing Director) of this company. 

On behalf of the company, all these 8 retired Indian Navy officers had gone to the Qatari Emiri Navy for training and other essential services and they were suddenly put under house arrest by the government.

Bhargava is trying her level best to bring them back. By tweeting, she has appealed to the Indian Embassy as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get the safe release of all 8 retired Indian Navy officers including his brother. Dr. Meetu says that all these have been retired Indian Indian Navy officers and due to their age, their health is also getting affected in solitary confinement.

Commander Purnendu Tiwari (retired), the managing director of the firm has received Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award from the, then President of the country Ram Nath Kovind in 2019. However, the reasons for which these Indians were detained and the charges leveled against them are yet not known.
