Closing the $44bn acquisition deal on Thursday, Elon Musk announced the formation of a content moderation council for Twitter, which will undoubtedly have diverse viewpoints. On Friday, the Tesla CEO remarked after his takeover of Twitter: “The bird is freed”, referring to the social media platform’s icon.
“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” Musk said. He, however, clarified that Twitter had not yet made any changes to its content moderation policies.
Twitter formally became the private property of Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX late Thursday night. Soon after taking over the social media platform, he reportedly removed several senior company officials, including Chief Executive Officer Parag Agrawal, Chief Financial Officer Ned Segal, and legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde.
Meanwhile, the Indian govt has also decided to set up a grievance appellate committee or CAGs within three months to address resolved complaints against the content moderation and takedowns made to grievance officers of social media apps, OTT platforms, and news portals and platforms through online dispute resolution mechanism. WIth the users will be able to appeal against grievance officers of the intermediaries like Twitter, Facebook, Whatsapp, Youtube, and others.
