RAIPUR: The bench of CJM Bhupendra Wasnikar at the Raipur district court today extended the imprisomemt of Kalicharan Maharaj. With the new order, seer Kalicharan will have to appear before thr court on November 11th.

Hindu leader Kalicharan was arrested by the CG police after he insulted Mahatma Gandhi and praised his assassin Nathuram Godse at a Hindutva event held in state capital Raipur in December last year. A team of Raipur police nabbed the Hindu leader from Madhya Pradesh from a rented house some 25 km from Khajuraho town. It is since then Kalicharan is in prison.

In December last year, during the conclusion of the two-day ‘dharma sansad’ (religious parliament) in Raipur, the seer allegedly used abusive words for Mahatma Gandhi, and asked people to elect a staunch Hindu leader as the head of the government to protect the religion.

The CG police had under sections 505 (2) (making statement that create or promotes enmity, hatred or ill-will between classes) and 294 (obscene acts) registered a case for allegedly using derogatory words against Mahatma Gandhi. Later, it added 124 A (sedition) and four other sections of the IPC in the case.
