REWA: 15 labourers returning from Katni, MP to Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur were killed as the bus they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck near Suhagi Pahari in Rewa late last night.

40 others are said to have been injured in the accident. The injured were rushed to to a hospital in Suhagi, those with critical injuries are being treated in Rewa’s Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, officials said.

According to reports, the truck was parked on the highway as it was damaged due to an accident that previously took place with another truck.

Acase has been registered and investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of accident. Arrangements are being made by the Rewa district administration to send the bodies to their family members in Uttar Pradesh, MP Chief Minister’s office said. 

The Prime Minister has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh to each deceased in the tragic accident. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000.

UP CM Yogi Adityanath extended condolences over the deaths and also announced ex gratia of Rs 2 lakhs to be given to the kin of the deceased.

Along with them MP CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan also announced a compensation of Rs 1 Lakh each to be provided to the families of the deceased on behalf of the state government.
