New Delhi: In a major feat on Sunday, the country became the first to cross the 200 Crore landmark as it administered its 2 billionth shot. From the first dose against Covid-19 administered on January 16, 2021, it took about 548 days for India to hit the milestone of 200 crore doses. India had crossed the first milestone of 100 crore doses on October 21, 2021, which is about 279 days since the start of the mass vaccination across the country.
The country got to the second milestone in a slightly shorter period of 269 days, buoyed by the 75-day, free precautionary dose campaign for 18 to 59-year-olds As per the data shared by CoWIN- on Saturday, July 16, 2022, a total of 25 lakh doses were administered with most vaccinations happening for precaution doses in the age group of 18-59.
Meanwhile, the health ministry recorded 20,528 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 98.47 per cent accounted for 17,790 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,30,81,441. The daily positivity rate stood at 5.23 per cent.
The number of active cases stood at 1,43,449 accounting for 0.33 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported an increase of 2,689 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate stood at 1.20 per cent recorded 49 fatalities taking the cumulative death toll to 5,25,709.
