New Delhi: The Delhi Patiala House Court on Saturday granted 14 jail judicial custody in the ongoing case of an objectionable tweet. Ending his 4-day police remand on July 2, Zubair filed a bail plea which was rejected by the court.

Advocate Vrinda Grover and Atul Shrivastava who are representing Zubair and Delhi Police respectively placed their arguments in front of the court one after the other. Vrinda argued that the so-called objectionable tweet belonged to a film by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and the tweet was declared provocative and sensitive with no directions from Twitter to remove the same.

From the Delhi Police side, Atul Shrivastava countered, saying that the case is not time-barred as the tweet is still there and also alleged that Zubair received donations from foreign countries as well.

Meanwhile, a senior Delhi Police official has also alleged that Zubair was evasive during the questioning and didn’t co-operate in the investigation. The necessary technical support needed for the purpose of the interrogation was not provided by Alt News Co-Founder. Two new sections of IPC, Section- 201, 120 (B) and Section 35 of Foreign Contribution (Regulation),  Act  2010 has also been added by Delhi Police.
