New Delhi: India recorded 8,084 fresh infections in the past 24 hours taking India’s tally of COVID-19 cases to 4,32,30,101. The recovery rate at 98.68 per cent accounted for 4,592 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 4,26,57,335.

The daily positivity rate rose to 3.24 per cent. The number of active caseload surged to 47,995 accounting for 0.11 per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases added 3,482 fresh infections in the last 24 hours.

However, the mortality rate stood at 1.21 per cent recorded 10 virus related fatalities taking the cumulative death toll to 5,24,771. The financial district recorded a 1,000 per cent increase in daily new COVID-19 cases since May 17, triggering fears of a possible fourth wave. On May 17, Mumbai recorded 158 daily cases while the total active caseload stood at 932. May 17 was also the last time active caseload remained below 1,000. Since then, total active cases have breached the 10,000-mark for the first time in five months. It reached 10,047 on Saturday — a 978% rise.

With the administration of 11.77 lakh vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s COVID-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 195.19 crore according to Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
