Jashpur: Tension prevailed in Jashpur town in Chhattisgarh after right-wing groups took to the streets in protest alleging the sale of beef and also beat up two youths at a cloth shop in the Kotwali area on Thursday. Jashpur additional superintendent of police Pratibha Pandey said that police had received complaints that few people were selling beef in the market near Kirtan Bhawan in Jashpurnagar.
A team of police reached the spot and arrested three persons, including a woman from the spot under Krishak Pashu Pariskshak Adhiniyam and the matter was further being probed. Police have also seized four-five kilograms of beef from their possession.
The law and order situation after the incident went for a toss as the right wing activists thrashed and kicked those allegedly selling beef. They also wrecked and tried to set ablaze a few temporary made shops at the meat market and there was a mayhem like situation when police forces had to be pressed upon service.
Police officials said that the market was temporarily being shifted to prevent further such a situation and also the locals demanded to demolish the market from the place. BJP leader Vikramaditya Judeo said that a particular community was involved in killing a cow and selling beef in the market which was purely to provoke sentiments of people. He said that the protest would continue if such practices wouldn’t stop.
