New Delhi: Days after quiting from the grand old party, the former Punjab chief of the party, Sunil Jakhar, is likely to join the BHP today sources said.

The three-time MLA and one-time MP, resigned on Friday while the party was holding a three day brainstorming session in Rajasthan. He said he was heartbroken at being removed from all party posts by the Congress disciplinary committee following allegations of anti-party activities against him by certain Punjab unit leaders. He also blamed Congress MP Ambika Soni’s statement on the “repercussions of having a Hindu chief minister in Punjab” for the party’s drubbing in the state assembly polls earlier this year.

Mr Jakhar is in Delhi and has already met BJP chief JP Nadda. The former Congress leader was recently issued a show-cause notice by the Congress leadership over his criticism of former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.

Last month, the Congress’ disciplinary panel had recommended that Mr Jakhar be suspended from the party for two years and removed from all posts.
